Eclipse Tour, July 30-Aug. 7, 2027

This is where our group stayed. Do you think I know how to get my people close to the action?

-
Monday July 26. ARRIVAL. We pick you up at the Cairo airport and wisk you to your quarters near the pyramids of Giza. Relax and enjoy meeting the explorers you will be joining on this adventure at our Welcome Dinner.
-
Tuesday July 27. SAKKARA and DAHSHUR. We start you out right where pyramid building started, the Step Pyramid of Djoser, the largest building in the world when it was built and the first pyramid to appear - anywhere! We'll also see the Pyramid of Unas and the Serapeum. After lunch we'll head over to the large pyramids of the next dynasty, the Red and Bent Pyramids of Pharaoh Sneferu. You'll have the opportunity of going inside one of them... but it's a lot of work... can you handle it?
-
Wednesday July 28. THE GREAT PYRAMID and GIZA. Explore the Giza Plateau with Larry. We will have a 2-hour private entry into the Great Pyramid, gaining access to chambers not open to the public. This is special!
-
Thursday July 29. GEM. After breakfast Larry will lead a memorial walking tour along the east side of the Giza complex, and talk about the history, sociology, and likely future of the area. After lunch we will spend all afternoon at the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM). It is the largest museum in the world dedicated to one civilization, and is truly a modern wonder of the world! In the evening we will have an optional dinner at the Mena House, which Time Magazine put in its listing of the 100 most interesting places in the world. After this we will have a session on Egyptian essential oils from Master Gamal Abdul.
-
Friday July 30. MINYA. We will take a van tour into middle Egypt, where tourists seldom venture, to visit the only pyramid in Egypt east of the Nile, one of the 7 Mysterious Step Pyramids, and see the city built by the renegade Pharaoh Akhenaton, Amarna.
-
Saturday July 31. ABYDOS. We will visit the Temple of Seti I in this land of Osiris, and then board our private luxury cruise ship (in Egypt it's called a Dahabya) at 3pm and talk together about our collective plans to experience one of the greatest natural phenomenon of the century, this eclipse!
-
Sunday August 1. DENDERA, LUXOR. We will immerse ourselves in the spectacular Hathor Temple in Dendera, and then travel to Luxor, where we will enjoy the inimitable splendor of the Luxor and Karnak Temples. Because Luxor will be so crowded, we will determine later the best positioning of our yacht for the optimum eclipse viewing experience!
-
Monday August 2. ECLIPSE! This is the big day. You can start it with a hot air balloon ride early in the morning if you're daring and want to pack your day with sky events! Then enjoy the cruise luxuries as we gather ourselves for this magical natural eclipse experience! After such a powerful natural immersion, it's time to relax and enjoy hanging out on the sun deck, watching the ancient pastoral scenes along the timeless Nile, appreciating how wonderful the sun can be when it's not hidden! (Very few clouds in Egypt, and only once in a century grand eclipses!)
-
Tuesday, August 3. After breakfast we will see the Valley of the Kings and the unique architecture of the Temple of Queen Hatshepsut, and the colossi of Memnon.
-
Wednesday, August 4. ESNA and EDFU. We will experience going through the Nila locks in Esna, and then visit the Temple of Khnum. We will then sail to Edfu, where we will take horse-drawn caleshes to visit the The Temple of Horus.
-
Thursday August 5. ASWAN. There is an optional excursion to Abu Simbel. We will visit Elephantine Island, the Unfinished Obelisk, the Nubian Village and a wonderful local (not tourist!) market.
-
Friday August 6. ASWAN. We will not only visit the marvelous Isis Temple, but we will also go to its original location where you can swim in the Nile if you choose. In the evening we will fly to the Cairo airport hotel, the La Meridien, where we will have an informal farewell dinner.
-
Saturday August 7. GOOD BYE! .... At our airport hotel you will be able to walk or take a shuttle to your departure gate. If you are leaving later in the day you can do some shopping at the Khan el-Khalili market or more sightseeing in Old Cairo before you depart.
