Aswan

Aswan is in the southernmost part of the nation of Egypt, one end of the path taken by almost all the Nile Cruise ships, the other end being Egypt's ancient capital of Luxor (formerly Thebes). Aswan is where the First Cataract of the Nile is, preventing large ships from navigating south. Nearby Elephantine Island has a rich archaeological heritage. The Nubian Village is a popular stop that allows tourists to see local life in this area as it is today.
